Art One - More Prints



Below are more examples of block prints.  What do you notice about the process of the artist?  Which ones are more/less successful and why?

  2. Some are more detailed than others and have more shadows, while the others are more on the simple side.

  5. The artist uses a lot of detail and different objects in the prints so that more than one things draws the intention of the viewer. I think the second and third are the most successful because of all of the meticulous detail in them. The fine lines and detailed images cause the print to look more realistic and stand out.

  7. I like the one of the town. I can tell that the artist was really getting detailed with what he/she was doing when the were carving or cutting it. It really seems like they know what they are doing. The artist seemed to take his/her time with the picture he/she was working with. I think it is very successful.

  8. I like the third print because it is so intricate and meticulously carved. I feel like it is the most life-like and accurate of all the pictures. You can definitely differentiate between the different shades of grey, white, and black, which adds a great deal of reality.

  9. The sunflower of is very successful because he carved it where it looked like they were sunflowers and made it kind of detailed. Another successful one I think it the harbor one, it has a lot of detailing and shadows and shows the picture very clearly. I think the face is not that good because the way he carved it, its all going away from his face and it doesn't show much detailing of shadows on his face. -Macy Long

  12. The lines are always carved in the direction of the texture. The pieces with more lines look more realistic than the pieces with less lines.

  13. Block printing looks very interesting when you have a lot of texture. Even though it isn't easy,the prints all look awesome when you finish them.

  15. I likes blocks 2,3,and 6 more than the others because I feel the artist thought them out more, giving their work more contrasts and intricate details.

  24. A lot of different shapes with a lot of different patterns make the picture look a lot more creative and more thought through. My favorite are the 2nd and 6th.
