Ceramics - Free Form Feedback

What did you think about the coil and free form process?  What did you learn?  What would you have done differently if you made another one?  What is the best thing about your free form pot?

  1. I learned to go with the flow, because my pot is not what I expected it to be. I really like that it's free form because I did not have to worry about doing something "correctly". I probably would have been more careful about the shape, I would have made it smaller, and smoother. I love how big and crazy it is.

  2. I think that free form was a lot more fun to do vs doing coils. I learned how to make a pot now. If I made another coil pot, I'd make it more curvy. the best thing about free form is doing whatever you want with it.- Casey

  3. Making the pot was a lot of fun and took some creativity to shape the clay the way you wanted it. I learned how to wedge huge blocks of clay pretty well from all the coils I made. If I were to make another pot I would definitely put a bat cave symbol on it. The best thing about my pot is it's smooth and it looks like patrick from spongebob or casper the friendly ghost.

  4. I love the coil and free form process! It was so chill and enjoyable. It taught me a lot about going with flow and just learning how to relax. If I made another one, I would probably make it a lot more curvier and intricate (like Alisha's or Cole's). I actually really like how my pot isn't smooth because:
    a) it's less stuff for me to worry about
    b) and the roughness creates a unique texture
This is by far my favorite technique that we've used in ceramics!

  5. Its ok. I don't like it because it takes so long, but the pots do look pretty cool. If I could redo it I would probably make it skinnier so that I would have been able to make it taller. I really like how it is very curvy and has a cool look. All in all it has been pretty fun though.

  6. It was very rigorous. I learned to be more patient and simply let my shape build up into its own form rather than manipulating it myself. I would've started off with a different shape because I felt as though my coiling could have looked even more cool if my shape wasn't so basic. The best thing about my free form pot is the movement of my pot. It isn't simply up and down and boring.

  7. okay, Mrs. Butler i don't think you want my honest opinion of this! i really have not enjoyed this project just because i had to miss so much so that caused me to fall behind quickly! It taught me that you cant just stop that you gotta keep working. If i had it to do over i probably would have made my base smaller but kept the design! I do love how much movement my pot has

  8. I would have had my pot more small. I would have tried to spend more time smoothing it. I learned that I need more patience.
