Ceramics - Blog 8 - Greek Amphora

Follow the link below to find out more about red and black figure Greek pottery.  During the firing process and if oxidation (smoke) occurs, the smoke can turn the unglazed portions of the pot black.

  2. I think it's cool how Ceramics ties in a lot with Chemical Reactions. I also like how the Greeks painted images of their emotions, nature, and experiences on their pottery that often told stories.

  3. It's so cool how they used slip to turn the figures or background black. It's also interesting that they used Amphora pots for carrying and storing food items. Their work was not only decorative but also functional.

  5. I really just dislike this type of pottery. I mean, the process is pretty cool an interesting and I don't understand how the black part doesn't come off. I just don't think it's pretty.

  12. Personally, I like the red figure better because I like the contrast with the black in the background. My favorite thing about this type of pottery is the fact that these pieces tell stories. I love the history behind different works of art.
