I noticed that the "hatch/cross-hatch" method resembled the shading of most comic books from the Silver Age. While the other methods produce more realistic effects, the hatching creates a more stylized piece. I prefer it to the others.
Shading varies according to project. I like the comic book look but i also really like the traditional shading technique used in some sketchbooks and drawings. The darker you want your shade, the more pressure you apply.
The way he used something else to smear the graphite made it look really cool and I didn't know you could do that. Also shading in the shape of the circle will help. -Garrison Hotchkiss
I like how he used the different shading techniques to really make the image look more realistic. It looked like some of the pictures were coming off the page because of the shading. This is really cool and it will be fun to try it out. -Liam Bassett
I had never thought to darken the area around a bright object to make it brighter than the paper. The Core shadow effect was very interesting and realistic, something I will have to use in the future. Also the smudging was technique that I do not see often and will have to employ as well.
I already n=knew how to cross hatch shade and the more realistic version, but the way he did different materials was quite new and interesting. ~Blake Barfiled 6th Period
Shading is awesome; it adds so much depth to the picture and makes it much more realistic. My lineoleum owl beats his shaded owl any day of the week though
I thought it was really cool how he used different types of shading to make the cubes more realistically shaded. An the picture of the hands was very cool to me. -Kyle Bradley
I learned that there are many techniques to shading. Also that you should change your type of shading according to the object you are drawing.
