Ceramics - White clay

What is the difference between working with white clay and red clay?  Which do you prefer?

  1. White clay is a lot stickier than red clay. It's a little easier to mold than red clay, but red clay is smoother. I prefer working with red clay because it doesn't stick to everything.

  2. White clay is sticky and harder to smooth. I prefer working with red clay because it is easier to work with and it does stick to my table!

  5. White clay is much easier to work with and mold because it is more moist than red clay. Red clay is a bit more stiff. I love white clay because it gives me more freedom to shape what I want.

  6. White clay doesn't make your hands as dirty and I think it stays moist longer. I like white clay better because it also looks cooler and will look better when painted because it isn't red.

  7. white clay will allow color to show more vibrant than red clay and it is easier to judge the outcome with a white base.

  8. White clay is more sticky and it's more plastic-like. I like white clay best because it is prettier when fired, and much easier to glaze.

  9. I like the white clay better because it is easier to shape what you want to make. and I feel like red clay doesn't get as colorful as the white clay.

  10. White clay is more sticky than red clay. White clay allows the glaze to show up much better than white clay as well. It'd almost like a base for the beautiful colors that emerge after you glaze your art. I like working with white clay better because it allows your art to look pretty with all of the vibrant colors mixed together.

  12. I like white clay because it's easier to use the spin wheel on it and the glaze shows up better, but it is stickier and dries fast. I like using red clay when we make things with out hands.
