What do you think?  How was this made?

  1. I like working with clay, so this is pretty cool. It might have been made on a pottery wheel, then let dry a little, and was finished by pressing the templates into the sides.

  2. This is a really beautiful piece! I think that it was made starting with a base then using coils and smoothing out the edges. I think they pressed on the textures after the piece was made.

  3. I think it was made on the wheel but the design would have been hard to create because it would be very top heavy. It looks difficult to make but at the same time its really cool.

  4. It looks like the shape was molded by hand on a pottery wheel and the inscribed details were etched in afterwards with a small tool.

  5. I like the Aztecy design imprinted on the outside. Probably took multiple coils of clay and smoothed them together by slipping and scoring, then they probably took a texture pattern and created the external design

  6. I think this was made on a pottery wheel and then the engravings were done by hand with a pen-shaped tool. I don't think this serves any purpose other than as a decoration.

  7. I think it looks like a flower a little and is purely decorative. It's very wide at the top and narrow at the bottom, and has a strange rim shape that I doubt it is for eating or filling with water since it would fall over much easier than others. The design on the outside suggests this as well since it is not needed for using the pot, and is for decoration. It may have been made by taking a ball of clay, pinching a hole in the middle, and thinning the sides out till the desired shape emerged. It is unlikely that it was made on a potters wheel since Native Americans had not invented such technology at that point.

  8. I think this was spun on the pottery wheel and then stamped with the design templates.

  12. It looks really really old. It looks like they coiled it on top of each other then stamped it with templates.

  14. It looks like one of those coil pot things, they probably did that, then smoothed it and added the patterns later, with a template or by hand.

    1. This pot is really cool. I think that it was made the same way we are making ours then they took a pin and drew cool designs on it later fired.

  15. I think the shape was made first using one of the rotating things, then the pattern was put on afterwards.

  16. This is a really cool piece! I think they used the coiling method just like we are in class. It was smooth during the coiling process, then a pattern template was used to create this unique vase.

  18. I know hat probably took a while definitely putting all of those designs in there, and it was made by stacking clay on top of each other and smoothing it out for the nice surface.

  19. this clay creation seemed to take along time to make but I think it was made on one of those spinning pottery wheels. to make this you need a little talent because a bowl is hard enough to make let alone a big clay creation like this one. I think the patterns look pretty random but still cool.

  20. I think it was created on the spin wheel and as it got tall enough I think the designs were hand crafted in to what they wanted and how they wanted it. This is pretty cool and unique.

  21. I hope to make my pot look similar to that. The top must have been difficult to make though. He had to make sure that the clay wouldn't be too thin. The pattern imprinted on it is very interesting as well

  22. this is a pot that is mad of clay, and each design is hand drawn usually on the pot, it is a beautiful thing to make if you have the skills to make it

  23. I think this was made with the same way as we are.
Rolling coils and they after they build it i think they used texture plates to do the outside.

  24. looks like a coil pot then the design cut into the sides and top

  25. I like how it opens up uniquely at the top and the texture of it on the outside, it also doesnt look like its a very thick pot

  28. I think it looks really cool. I think it's made with different layers of coils of clay you stack on one another and then you smooth them all together

  29. It looks very interesting. Must have been made with slabs of clay with imprinted designs in them, and then connected together.
