Outdoor beauty - Due Friday April 24 - Art 1, Art 2 and Ceramics

Although we are all in quarantine, there is much to be thankful for!!!  It is a week after Easter, He is Risen and spring is all around us.  There is beauty in this challenging time.  You just have to open your eyes and look.

Go outside and find something beautiful.  Really, really look at it.  Using 3 complete sentences, describe it here.  Do not use the word nice, beautiful, lovely or pretty.  Be descriptive!!!  Below is what I saw and my written example.

There are small, snow white flowers in my front yard.  The little petals are round and have specks of yellow, while the leaves are pointed which is an interesting contrast in shape.  I didn't notice this at first, but when I looked closely, there are tiny buds which will produce more icy blooms later in the season.  The neutral color of the pine straw and leaves provide a backdrop for the bright, clean green and sparkling white.

  1. As I was taking a walk today I noticed that since there was a heavy storm, everything was becoming very vibrant. All the colors were starting to pop and had a more distinct tone to them. I saw mostly green from the grass, bushes, and trees but there were some splashed of color from flowers every now and then.

  2. While i was outside i saw how amazing the sky truly looks. The light blue really goes well with the white in the clouds. Then there are the streaks of clouds that really help blend the white and blue together

  3. The rose bush in my back yard is in full bloom. The pink of the roses adds a pop of color to my yard. There are also a lot of bees that come and pollinate on the flowers which I love because they are fat and don't sting because they are bumble bees.

  4. I love the way the light sparkles on the surface of the pool. When you look up from the pool you see a pink rose bush providing a great contrast the the blues and greens of the pool and the surrounding shrubs. The summer is my favorite time because I can walk outside into all of these bright colors.

  5. As I was outside feeding the stray cats, I noticed that the southern magnolia tree in my front yard is getting close to blooming. As I look at the tree, the dark leaves make the area look dark. But, the tree manages to let light in and you can see a little of the magnolia flower trying to bloom. Although our nation is going through hard times, us taking the time to see the beauty around us temporarily puts our minds at ease.

  6. I love to walk my dog through my neighborhood most mornings. It is usually cool and breezy compared to walking in the scorching heat. There's tons of nature around every corner. One of my favorite things is to feel the breeze against my skin and to hear it. I think it's really relaxing. I love soaking up the sun and feeling the nature all around me.

  7. Yesterday afternoon, when I was sitting in my front yard, I noticed the sun's light hitting the grass. I thought it was interesting how even though I know that most of the grass is the same shade of green, it looked as though there were four or five different shades. In the area that the sun peeked through the pine trees, the grass looked lime green, while where there where shadows of the pine needles, the grass looked forest green.

  8. The other day before dark I was taking my dog to our backyard and I noticed that after the storm the water in the lake was cloudier than normal. The sun setting so the skies were pink, purple, and blue and they were being reflected off of the water and it was so cool to see everything around the lake such as the leaves on the trees and the grass have a colorful pink and yellow hue to them.

  9. Earlier today, I rode jet skis and the lake was really cold so i went back in a little before sunset. When i was outside on the dock, i watched the sunset which looked like cotton candy the pink, orange, blue, and purple colors reflected onto the water. Then these 8 baby ducks swam up to the dock and we fed them. Today was really windy and chilly towards the evening, but earlier in the day it was warmer. After these storms lately, the weather has been perfect and really enjoyable.

  10. On Monday I took a walk to the railroad tracks behind my house and a part of the trail really caught my eye. It was about 7:30 in the morning and the light shone at the end while the part of the trail I was walking on was still black as night. As I walked further the light caught on the dew left from dawn and I saw a reflective puddle in the gravel left from the storm on Sunday. While I was still in the part shrouded by dark which made the mossy green leaves and chocolate brown bark look muted and hazy, I could see the kelly green leaves of trees and grass a few steps in front of me which was a stark contrast to where I was standing. It made me think of how night was still clinging onto the world while morning was fighting it into a corner. In a way the sight was very peaceful and was a reminder that what we can’t see in dark times is revealed in the light.

  11. i layed out outside and just listened to the birds singing and looked at all the bright colors around me. the pool was glistening in the sunlight and all the colors looked brighter than usual. i guess i had never really stopped to pay attention to the nature. last night i went from laying out in the sun to stargazing wrapped in a blanket because when the sun went away it got cold fast. it was towards the beginning of the meteor shower so me and my family saw 6 shooting stars! it has been nice to just slow down and pay attention my surroundings

  13. Yesterday i was out by the pool and i noticed how part of the pool was shaded by a tree. This side of the pool was a much darker blue than the side in the sun. The side in the sun was a bright light blue color and the suns reflection bounced around in the water. The colors were changing because of the water movement and created a very pretty picture. The other side in the shade was a deep blue with no reflection.

  14. A few days ago I went on a walk in my neighborhood and at the front of my neighborhood there are some big bright fields with pecan trees all in perfect lines. I took a minute to stop walking and just acknowledge the glistening colors. The large trees were bright green and the baby blue sky behind them made for such a stunning contrast of colors. Nature is amazing and I love being outside, but so many times I don't actually stop to see all of the different shades of colors. This was so relaxing and such a great reminder of God's goodness and his light even in this scary time.

  15. Yesterday when I was fishing and saw these lily's. They were a vibrant yellow with long green stems. They hold a lot of wildlife in them like frogs, fish, and snakes. They also connect to the water and have little lily pads around them. -blake cohen

  16. I decided to go on a walk to clear my head, so I walked on the trail in the woods. I was only looking ahead of me and I noticed how the canopy of trees above me really shades the sunlight from getting through. I always focus on the path ahead of me, but never above. I looked above me and saw some rays on sunlight shining through the green leaves of the oak trees, it looked so serene and bright.

  17. It is raining pretty hard today and i am sitting outside on my porch. Hearing the rain hit the roof is very appealing and soothing to me. Even on some of what we consider the ugliest days nature is still beautiful regardless of rain, snow or sun.

  18. I am looking outside watching the rain fall on the pink florescent flowers. Although the weather outside is very gloomy, the rain is providing the nourishment for all things so that they will grow. The pink flowers caught my eye because they were so vibrant and had rain drops on them. -Kate Jones

  19. I ran in the park on the trail next to the river. Though it was cloudy I thought it was very calming with all the trees and nature around. There was very little sunlight so it was very cool outside. Having the river to the side of me and endless trees on the other side of me. Occassionally I would notice a flower or 2 and a few bugs flying around. Sometimes I would hear birds chirp or see a squirrel climbing a tree. It was calming and quiet. - Josh Lincoln

  21. There are ferns growing from the side of my house. They reappear every spring. Their long pointed leaves seem to reach for the sun. If you look closely, on the underside of the leaves are brown polka-dots that are visible when the sun goes down and the leaves close. They are becoming a crisp green and add a vibrant touch to my otherwise neutral yard.

  22. After the light rain this morning, I took my dog for a walk. I spotted a bright red cardinal while I was walking. When I came back home, I walked through the fresh new grass that appeared this week after we cleared land by our house. Seeing new plants and grass flourish after destroying everything before it was very refreshing for me. - Austin

  23. Yesterday I went out into nature. It was very majestic I loved the way the trees moved and how they moved like humans in some ways. You could really see the beauty in gods design through animals such as squirrels and birds, little fishies.

  26. a couple days ago i went outside to get a breath of fresh air because due to the social distancing i feel trapped in my house. i immediately noticed the clear blue skies accompanied by the varying colors of green being displayed by the leaves in the trees. however despite all of these wonderful sights, i found the sound of the wind whistling through the tree's to be the most soothing.

  27. During this week I was able to go outside of my house and be able to look at all of the pure nature that surrounded my house. The object that stood out to me the most though was an azalea bush. Our azalea bush is more of a pinkish red color, so it really pops in contrast to the green grass and leaves that surround it. I was able to really look at the azalea petals and take in the true beauty that each and every petal has.

  31. This week i was able to step outside. And the wind was blowing and hard breeze so the trees were swaying, and the sun was out and so warm. 32. Over our quarantine "break", my family got a dog. We have been loving getting to spend time with her and I have been taking her on walks every day. It is so great to get to go outside and see all the stillness of our usually very happening neighborhood. I always notice on my walks how the trees fold over top of the road and create awesome shadows. The sun peaking through the trees, it creates an amazing and honestly very tranquil setting for my puppy and I to enjoy.

  36. Sorry that this is a little late but I haven't been outside much this week. Today I went out to lake Juliet to go fishing, and you wouldn't believe how clear the water was. I could see all of the rocks and weeds on the bottom in a kaolin blue tint. That water was the clearest I have seen it in a long time.

  37. over the break my family and i have been landscaping. we built a koi pond in our back yard and the fish are so colorful with shades of orange, blue, grey, and red. there mouths are large for the size of their body, but that does not affect the swiftness in which they glide through the water. the koi pond itself is eyecatching as well because of the blend of greenery, rocks, and flowers.
