Below are of block prints.  What do you notice about the process of the artist?  Which ones are more/less successful and why?

  1. The artists seem to all use different sized tools and depth to create the different shades of light and dark to enhance their block. I personally like the block with the flowers the most but it is very meticulous, however, the barrel one seems to be the easier one because of the bigger engravings.

  2. I really like the details of the second and third blocks. The detail really stands out in them and they are very clear. The first block has too much white and not enough detail.

  3. the artists all used different size markings to make different images. I like the second one because it is very detailed and I don't like the first one because I can't really tell what it is.

  4. They used thicker stencils that are portrayed to be with the picture.I cant also tell what the first picture is trying to show me.

The church among the sun flowers is the most impressive. It is the most detailed. The boat shows depth and perspective and the bigger scratches gives the boat texture,

  6. Each artist uses different tools to create different details in the pieces. In print making you can see texture which makes each piece more detailed.

  7. I think each artist used different tools and ideas for all other their block prints; but in my opinion, I think the more successful ones are the 2nd and 3rd block prints because of the detail in them.

  10. I like the second and third one better because it looks like the artist was very detailed and made a good imprint with the ink. The first one looks like he didn't have enough ink and it wasn't very detailed, so it is my least favorite.

  11. Print making seems very difficult to me. They all seem to turn out well but I am nervous to do it myself. I think the ones with more detail look good but could be more difficult to do.

  12. the process seams tedious because every indention will change the print. The second, third, and fifth look the most difficult. I think that the person took more time on these prints and used the proper amount of ink.-Anna Lako

  13. I really like the one with the house and the river, and the one with the owl. You can tell the painter had very small detail in his print making which made it look very nice with small details. Print making looks very difficult to me, but I'm ready to learn how to do it.

  14. The author uses shading to accentuate the details. This comes across the most in the third image.

  15. The artists use different strokes and patterns to form the black and white images. The contrast of darks and lights allows you to look at it in different ways. I like the third one because of the detail. The fourth one seems less difficult to me.

  16. I like the second and third because they are very detailed opposed to ones like the first. The second and third have a good amount of ink and you can tell the artists took time on them. Though these seem a little difficult, I think it will be cool to learn.

  17. I think the third one is a more successful than the others because it shows more depth, and the other images are more flat.

  18. I think the second one shows the process of the artist the best, it shows how they began with the back ground and used different brush strokes to create the back ground. I think that the last one is the most successful seeing the image form into the barrels seems really interesting and complicated, but the different angles really helps define the shapes. - Abbie Burns

  19. i really like this idea of doing this, this is really thinking outside of the box! it is a really neat way of showing contrast by "cutting away" and what not. Neat!

  21. I think the prints that show the most contrast between the light and dark while still having a lot of detail are the most successful. I also like the use of different directions with lines. For these reasons i think the second and third are the most impressive and the others are less successful. -kaileybohan

  24. The artists seem to use the details of each of the items and featured objects to add to the contrast of the background. I think the most successful one would be the 3rd one because of its use of this technique. -Ben Hall
