Art Two - Block Print Portraits

Below are examples of portraits using the block print method.  The white areas are carved away and the black is left in the material.  The block is then inked and printed.  What do you think?

  1. All the attention to detail is really cool, especially in the third one because doing it in class, you get to see how hard it is and what goes in to each cut.

  2. I like how you can see the different direction of cuts the artist carved out the faces.

  3. I like the faces that have more of a contrast between light and dark. I also like the ones that have a lot of little detail.

  5. I like these block print portraits because they can be very different but at the same time be the same thing. They are all diverse and difficult but at the same time very appealing to look at.

  6. I think its really cool that we are able to do something like that. I would have never thought of doing something like that. The detail on them is amazing. My favorite one is the second one, the eye looks realistic and cool.

  7. The people who make these are so talented. They only use black ink and the white that did not get inked to carve out facial structures. I think it is pretty awesome.

  8. I really like how the absence of ink can create an image. It's cool how carving out something can change the overall color and look of the print.
