Have you completed your wheel thrown piece for quarter 2? Remember, it is graded on its merits not just completion. All building must be finished this week so that they can dry and be fired twice.
What techniques are your favorite and least favorite? Why?
for making pots, i love coiling. i really love free form the best because you can let it take you where it wants instead of having to follow a certain guideline. The amphora project was really fun to see it come together but the process is hard to make it symmetrical
ReplyDeleteI finished my 2nd quarter wheel thrown piece. I really love throwing on the wheel because I'm more of a perfectionist. I love other people's free form pots but when I do it I can only see what I don't like about it, on the wheel it's easier to get it as close as possible to perfect. (Of course I can always find something wrong with it though)
ReplyDeleteIt really depends on the day for me. When everything is going how I want it to on the wheel then I prefer that technique over coiling, but when the clay isn't cooperating with me on the wheel then I prefer coiling.
ReplyDeleteI love throwing more than coiling. Throwing is much faster and smoother than coiling to me so I think I prefer that technique.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I have finished my wheel thrown piece.
Deletei have finished all projects. I like throwing better because everything looks more precise and even if there is a little unevenness in the thrown piece it still looks unique. my least favorite technique was the pinch pots because they never look how i wanted them to.

I think throwing on the wheel is really fun but it's so difficult for me, so I think using coils is probably the best technique for me. It takes longer but I feel like it's more controllable and easier to fix

I have finished everything that is due this week. My favorite is definitely throwing on the wheel. The worst thing to me to do is using coils, then having to smooth them out. I am never fully satisfied with my smoothing, and no matter how hard i try to smooth it, it just wont get smoother.
ReplyDeleteI like throwing and coiling. Coiling can be a little tedious but it usually turns out pretty if you can get it smooth.
