Art One - Vincent van Gogh
Below are works by Vincent van Gogh. He lived 1853-1890. He was only 37 when he died from a self inflicted gun shot wound. He grew up in Holland but moved to France as an adult. He only sold one painting in his lifetime but is one of the world's best known painters. (This is not always the case. Monet, Picasso and Matisse were all famous in their lifetimes.)

it is quite sad how he died so young and only selling one painting. I also feel like his last painting showed how alone he felt in the world.

ReplyDeleteI think that Van Gogh's work is very impressive and he could have been as famous as the other artists if he really pursued it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with that statement because in order for a dream to become a reality, you have to have work ethic, and work ethic makes goals, and goals can equal to successes, if someone really tried. I like how his inspirations on art pieces were based on everyday things, like the fourth one (the bar picture). He was very good at capturing little details in an everyday environment.

Van Gogh is a very well known artist. I love the landscape paintings he did. It is so weird thinking that he had only sold 1 painting while he was alive, yet he is one of the most well known artists today.

I really think that Van Gogh's work is very impressive. It is sad that he died at 37 because he could made more money and really be heard more painters to inspire more painters.

Art and pain have a relationship don't they? I expect artists to become famous after some tragedy or death. They're worth more when you're dead.

Gabby I think that is a very interesting connection that you made. Van Gogh's death seemed to be his point of fame, selling only one painting during his lifetime. My favorite painting is the one of the sunflowers, because the wilting ones look very realistic.

Vincent had some amazing pieces of art in his lifetime. It really is tragic that he only had time to sell one of his paintings. He has had so much influence on the artistic world and is rarely ever given credit.

I agree on your perspective, Jake. It's not everyday someone can become a famous painter, and without the work put into something, there is no credit. You have to work hard to gain something in this world, and I think Van Gough did just that.

I love the Van Gough's second and third painting because of not only the details, but also because that the influence is based on landscapes. To me, that's really cool about his influence he had on art, even though he was a very young painter.
