AP and Art 3

2D - Create a work in your sketchbook that is inspired by the work of Jean Michel Basquiat.  It's a little tribal/crazy. Be loose.

3D - Create a small wire sculpture inspired by the work of Richard Deacon.  Incorporate one other found object into it.  Mrs. Butler will give you the wire.

Art 1,2 and Ceramics - Fired Works for Extra Credit

There is no typical blog this week.  Instead, go to the Fired Works exhibit.  It is a ceramic show and sale.  More information can be found at http://www.firedworksmacon.com/.  Take a selfie there in front of your favorite group of work then show me next week.  There are sculptural and functional  pieces there. This is completely optional but I really think you will enjoy it.  The hours are below.

Ceramics - Red and Black Figure Pottery

Follow the link below to find out more about red and black figure Greek pottery.  During the firing process and if oxidation (smoke) occurs, the smoke can turn the unglazed portions of the pot black.

Art One - More Drawing Examples

Art 3/AP - "double" Friday assignment due 4/17 - none for 4/10

2D - Create a Photoshop mandala.
1.  Make a Photoshop document that is 7"x7" with a 300 dpi resolution.  Open Photoshop.  Go to "file", then "new" to set it up.
2.  Go ahead and open up 2-3 layers.  Don't paste it on the background.
3.  Use a section of one of your previous works for one of the layers.  Use any other photograph for the other layer.  Feel free to add more layers if you want.
4.  Erase, adjust the transparency, contrast, etc. to create the most dynamic image you can.  Don't forget that you can add filters to your layers as well.
5.  Save this file.
6.  Open up a new file that is 14"x14" with a 300 dpi resolution.
7.  Create four layers.
8.  Paste your 7"x7" piece on each layer.
9.  Use "Control T" or "Flip horizontally/vertically" to move and flip to line up all of the edges.
10.  You can be finished here or you can repeat the process for more detail.
The above mandala is a sample from Art One.  Yours should include a section of one of your works and any photo that relates either by subject or color.

3D - Two crazy toy collages
Use a variety of kids toys (and other found objects) to create a free standing 3D toy collage.  Keep the gluing neat.  Usually, hot glue is best.  These should not take very long, but the quirkier the better.  Feel free to raid my stash or scavenge on your own.  You can use other materials as well, but you should use at least one piece that is obviously a toy.  Do a good job on this - they make for great additions to your Breadth section of your AP portfolio.

Ceramics - Amphora

amphora, ancient vessel form used as a storage jar and one of the principal vessel shapes in Greek pottery, a two-handled pot with a neck narrower than the body. There are two types of amphora: the neck amphora, in which the neck meets the body at a sharp angle; and the one-piece amphora, in which the neck and body form a continuous curve. The first is common from the Geometric period (c.900 bc) to the decline of Greek pottery; the second appeared in the 7th century bc. The height of amphorae varies from large Geometric vases of 5 feet (1.5 metres) to examples of 12 inches (30 centimetres) or even smaller (the smallest are called amphoriskoi). The average normal height is about 18 inches (45 centimetres). Amphorae, which survive in great numbers, were used as storage and transport vessels for olives, cereal, oil, and wine (the wine amphora was a standard Attic measure of about 41 quarts [39 litres]) and, in outsize form, for funerals and as grave markers. Wide-mouthed, painted amphorae were used as decanters and were given as prizes.

Ceramics - Tuesday assignment

Finish watching the videos that I posted yesterday.

I should be back tomorrow and we will take two days to make our tripod cups.

Today, four of you can work on the wheel.

The rest of you can take one day and make either:
1. 3-5 clay buttons.  Feel free to use the texture plates and add two small holes.  Make sure they are smooth on the back and have nothing sharp.  Use the stamps to put your initials on the back.   Or
2.  The perfect pinch pot with a foot.

Art 2 - Tuesday assignment

I should be back tomorrow and we will take a couple of days to make our tripod cups.  In the meantime, I want you to go ahead and plan out our next painting.  We will focus on landscape paintings and trees.

For today, find 2-3 photos of trees (or parts of trees - roots, limbs, leaves, etc).  Photoshop them together.  You can also add one random item if you want (clock, antlers, pig face, etc.).  Change the background if you want to make it more interesting.  Print it out on the FA_MS/HSART printer.  It should already be installed into your tablet.  We will be loosely painting these so put something together with strong lights and darks as well as color.  Be creative!!!
